Weight Update

Well....it's now been over a week since my last post.  I've regretted not posting more often, because there are so many great things I'd like to share.  Unfortunately, I will probably not get to it all tonight.

Late last week (Thursday) I started to get sick and progressively got worse.  By Friday I needed to go to the Dr.  Starting to get a sinus infection, so they put me on a Z-Pack.  Glad to say I caught early and I'm starting to feel better.

Despite feeling awful, Jenn and I had made plans to go out for Valentine's on Friday night.  We went to Olive Garden and I had checked the menu ahead of time to try and make a good choice.  They have a special dish right now called Pear Gorganzola Ravioli.  It was 800 calories so that was good.  The one breadstick and salad pushed me just over the 1,000 calorie mark.  Needless to say, that was a bit much for what I like at dinner, but compared to many of their other dishes, not to bad.  They had salmon, which had some fewer calories, but I needed a break from that.

On Saturday we took Benjamin to the circus and had an amazing time!  He went with a friend who he hasn't seen in a long time so that was really fun for him.  Was happy that I left without partaking in any snacks.  However, part of the reason is because I was not very good at breakfast.  We were in a hurry so we made the stop at McDonalds.  I ended up with a sausage burrito (300 calories) and a yogurt parfait (160 calories).  Not absolutely terrible, but way over my typical 200 calories during the week.

On Sunday night we went to our church, which was hosting a Valentine's Dinner and we went to that.  They played the "Not So Newlywed Game", which Jenn and I were one of the 4 couples.  It was hillarious and we had a great time.  Again, another night were I went over what I would like.

Tonight for dinner I made something that really looked quite unhealthy, but when I added it all up I was only at 400 calories, which is great.  I found 96% lean ground beef and had 8oz (260 calories) 3 slices of center cut bacon (70 calories) one piece of 2% american cheese (50 calories) ketchup, jalepenos, mushrooms (20 calories).

There is no doubt that the weekends are the hardest, I love the routine of the week and work keeps me so busy I don't worry to much about trying to snack.  Hopefully as the weather gets warmer I can get out on the weekends and get a little more exercise.  I think if I was able to exercise more I'd see even quicker results.

So...now to address the title of tonight's entry.  When I went to the Dr. on Friday I decided to step on the scale and get an up-to-date and accurate reading.  I hate getting on the scale, so much so, that I think they put a note in my chart saying not to ask me.  I'm happy to report that I have now lost 26 lbs.  I am now at 290lbs.  To be honest I was really hoping to be around 285lb.  but I know that the lack of exercise I have been able to put in prevented me from getting there.  It was hard to be too disappointed though so I'm gonna keep truckin' along.  I now have 40lbs. to reach my goal by July 7th.  That's about 8 lbs. a month and I feel like that's more than realistic.  Not going to get to excited, but gosh if I could get some quality exercise in maybe I'll even lose more than 40 lbs. by then.

Alright, well I'm going to try and get better than 1x/week, but we shall see.

PS...next post, my anxiety with my trip to NY this coming weekend.  The source of many of my eating/nutrition problems from when I was a kid.  I've already called my mom and told her to pick me up some fiber one bars and almonds.

Super Bowl = Worst Food Since Beginning

Tonight has officially been the worst food night since I have begun.  Yet....somehow it still doesn't compare to how bad it probably was in Superbowls past.  I knew what I was cooking for dinner, which wasn't going to be too bad, but I really wanted some kind of snack for the big game.  It had been a long time since I've had any type of "dip"...and it's what I was craving for tonight.

Despite my efforts to make it "less bad" it still had more calories than anything else I've eaten in some time.  In a crock pot I used 2% Velveeta cheese, 8 oz of fat free sour cream, turkey sausage crumbles, and some jalapeno peppers.  Used baked tostitos as well.  That's about as healthy as I can make unhealthy look.

We did go to our favorite Mexican restaurant after church today, El Senor, for lunch.  I mentioned last week that I recently added up the calories for what I always got when we went.  Thinking it wasn't too terribly bad for me, it ended up being about 1,300 calories...OUCH!  Went a different route today and got it down to about 700 calories.  That's still quite a bit more than what I normally have for lunch, but at least I found something closer to what I'd like to be around (500 calories).

For dinner tonight I baked chicken tenderloins.  Had a little BBQ and Honey Mustard dipping sauce.  They were pretty good and Jenn really enjoyed them.  About 500 calories here.

Gonna have to hold it down this week and make sure I stay on track.  Everyone keeps telling me that a day like this has to happen once in a while, otherwise you start to "lose it" over time.  I gotta tell ya....I can feel the difference right now from eating more than I normally have been.  Hope that full feeling goes away soon.

Alright...back to the Superbowl....7 minutes left.

Trying to mix things up a little...

Well....this is the longest I have gone without a post, since I have begun.  This past week was pretty long and stressful.  My principal was out of the building most of the week due to meetings and anytime either of us are holding down the fort by ourselves it can get a bit hectic.  On Wednesday we started our after school tutoring program so I was there until 6pm.  We also had Math/Literacy night on Thursday so I was at school until 8 PM.

The leg extension for the Wii finally came in, so that was good.  I plan to get on tomorrow and try to get an up-to-date and accurate reading.  It's been awhile so I'm anxious to see what it says.  It has been hard to get the workout side of things in due to the schedule and the weather, but it's suppose to be nice tomorrow, so hopefully I can get out and walk and/or run.

I'm really thinking about getting a bike this spring.  I actually talked about it last year, but never did it.  Now that I am on this journey and feel committed to it I think I'm going to do it.

On the food side of things I have been getting bored so I've tried to mix things up a little bit.  I've also been looking for some places to cut more calories.  For breakfast I was putting a small amount of diced ham in my eggs (70 calories).  I've opted to go with the one jalapeno and some sliced mushrooms (under 15 calories).

Lunch has pretty much stayed the same.  I tried some Lean Cuisine Steamed meals (270 calories) They were very good.

As far snacks during the day: I've continued with the almonds (170 calories).  I have also brought some of the Fiber One bars(130 calories).  I mentioned last week that I bought some of the Pure Protein shakes (120 calories).  They are great if you put them in the freezer for a little while and get them nice and cold.  I had been having a snack mid-morning and then a snack later in the afternoon.  I've tried to take whatever snack I'm having and only eat half in the morning and save the other half for the afternoon.  If I can do that consistently that's a cut of about 150 calories.

I continue to eat fish often.  I tried Flounder for lunch today.  It was pretty good.  I still like Salmon the best, but I would get Flounder again.  For dinner tonight I was really interested in cooking so I went to Subway and got us subs.  Their 6 grams of fat subs are pretty good.  In the past I would have eaten all 12 inches, but now I eat the 6 inch and save the other half for another meal the next day.

I continue to have my night time snack of frozen mixed fruit and a little milk.

Well....I guess that's all for now.  Hopefully I can post a little more next week.
